Tips, Tricks to help you Quit Smoking.

.

I smoked since I was 14. I am now 48 and it has been 7 years since I quit. Here's how I did it. First, I I set about writing the times I smoked, what were my "triggers".I found I smoked at certain times, everyday. Okay now I know when I smoke. That makes it so much easier.

Then, I bought a box of patches, I didn't really have faith since I smoked OVER two packs a day. I knew I couldn't do it with out help.I have to give the patches credit , they work.

When one of my triggers came up, I had vegetables and ranch dressing. I had low calorie snacks, water, peanuts, things of that nature. I didn't want to gain the weight , I just wanted to quit smoking.

My triggers if you will, were talking on the phone, on the computer, driving, after eating. I would turn my attention away. For instance I do alot of ornament making and cross stitch. So instead of smoking I carried low fat snacks. Drank lots of water.

The diseases smoking brings are awful and the people that get these diseases really suffer. I watch my beloved father die from emphysema. trust me THAT'S an awful thing to watch, much less go thru. Gasping for air.

Everytime I looked and my son, I realized I can't let him watch me go thru this. You can do it if you want. This is just how I did it and was successful. I want to pass along these tips, in the hopes they help someone at least smoke one cigarette less than the day before. Find a hobby using your hands.

I hope this helps one person if not more, to quit before its too late. Good luck.

Thankyou everyone.Nothing worth having or doing is never easy.I know quitting smoking was hard. There is a medication you can take for a week,(chantex) then quit. My mom tried it. It didn't work for her. She didn't want to. You have to say enough is enough. Watching my dad gasp for air, scared me to death. I couldn't put my husband and son go through that.I used to sit up at three in the morning crying my eyes out.

I wish all of you sucess in the world.I KNOW you can do this. I don't have that awful cough anymore. Thankyou for your support.

My partner recently gave up smoking, after years of battling with it. This time he had good reason: a family.

He tried the spray and lozenges and so far they have worked. He's still on them but hasn't touched a cigarette yet. Lots of family support helps - plus he replaced them by drinking herbal teas which is far better, and doesn't make you put on weight!

Great hub.

I have to mentally get ready to do it. I hate smoking, but I can't do it alone, I need help with it. The thing is, I don't smoke that much and when I use the patch, I get so much more nicotine than I would have by still smoking, and it makes me dizzy and nauseated. They should make a "lite" patch for smokers, everything else has a lite version lol.
